About Julian Day
Positive. Credible. Authentic.
The Journey
I came to coaching through my own athletics journey. Starting early and competing in local, county and regional competitions I have been involved in athletics for over 40 years. As a masters athlete still actively competing in a number of different sports as well, I understand what it means to balance training with life, to chase goals while respecting your body, and to find joy in the process of improvement.
This matters because I coach what I do myself. When I talk about training principles, periodisation, or the mental challenges of competition, I'm speaking from experience, not just theory.
Coaching is a vocation. I have been coaching in athletics for 10 years, and currently work with a large group at Charnwood AC, as well as with individual athletes. I strongly believe every athlete deserves coaching that respects their intelligence, involves them in decisions, and prioritises their long-term development.
“I have authentic credibility. I coach only what I do myself. I live my advice.”

What the Credentials Mean
Qualifications matter, but they're not the whole story. What matters more is how I apply them - with an evidence-based approach, honest communication about what we know and don't know, and genuine investment in every athlete's journey.
My Coaching Philosophy
My coaching philosophy centres on a few key beliefs:
The Athlete Comes First
Goals come from the athlete, not imposed on them. For juniors, that means a three-way partnership between coach, parent, and athlete - with the athlete's voice heard first.
Development AND Performance
These aren't opposites. Athletes need to see their progress, not just trust the process. Competition drives development.
Evidence-Based, Honestly Uncertain
I use what the evidence tells us, but I'm honest about what we don't know. I can promise engagement, understanding, and the right training. I can't guarantee specific outcomes.
Fun With Serious Intent
Training should be enjoyable AND purposeful. If it's not fun, something's wrong. But we're also here to achieve something meaningful.
